The Ultimate Bathroom Cleaning Check List

Writer: Helen BainesHelen Baines

Scroll to just below the picture for the checklist- I don't do this every week but if I have time on my hands or in dire situations out comes this list as may as well do it all while I'm at it!

I'm potty training my second child at the moment; we have 4 bathrooms with toilets in our house plus pottys, but just about without fail our children fight over the one toilet at the very same time! Deep cleaning bathrooms was not on my to do list for Saturday, but, after a potty training episode I will never forget, I ended up with two sparkling clean children and not one, but two deep cleaned bathrooms! Something I am learning at the moment is; when struggles come over us, we need to remember that overcoming these challenges will become the stories of tomorrow;

  • They're the stories of "when this happened, but God saw us through"

  • They're the times when we grow and learn

  • They're the "hey, it's ok my children were able to paint two bathrooms with poo while we were working on potty training, you got this" stories for friends

At one point I had a sign up in my house that say "A smooth sea never made for a skilled sailor", Saturday was certainly one of those days!

Anyway, while cleaning those bathrooms, I was so thankful to have a method that I work through so I wasn't completely overwhelmed with where to start! Thought I would share that:

MY ULTIMATE BATHROOM CLEANING CHECKLIST

  1. Take the towels and bath mats (plus soiled clothes in my case) etc. to the laundry.

  2. Clean the toilet, use an old tooth brush for those hard to reach spots (The toilet is my worst job so I get it done first!).

  3. Pour a little all-purpose cleaner in the toilet brush holder to keep it fresh and clean.

  4. When I'm deep cleaning I clear the clutter in that room. Go through all the drawers and the cupboards etc.

    1. Chuck any garbage

    2. Make a donate pile

    3. Wipe out the inside of the cupboards and drawers

    4. Wipe down the items and put the items back in place. If anything doesn't have a specific place remove it and find a space for it or get rid of it, these are the items which will cause a mess again shortly!

  5. Clean the tub and/ or shower and polish the fixtures.

  6. Clean the light fixtures.

  7. Clean the extractor fans.

  8. Clean the Sinks and polish the taps.

  9. Clean the Counters.

  10. Clean your tooth brush holder by running it through the dishwasher.

  11. Clean your soap dispenser.

  12. Wipe down the walls top to bottom. I used my steam cleaner for this.

  13. Clean the floor.

  14. Clean the baseboards.

  15. Wipe down the door and door handle and light switch.

  16. Add clean towels etc.

  17. Enjoy your sparkly clean bathroom!
